「居然」和「竟然」

中文的"没想到"。英文靠加强语气做出这个味。

他居然赢了！       He actually won!
竟然是他干的！     It was him?! / He did it?!

居然 / 竟然 = 跟我料的不一样，带惊讶

三种做法

英文	效果
actually	最常用，相当于"其实 / 居然"
surprisingly / to my surprise	强调惊讶
ended up -ing	结果出乎意料
did + 动词	口气重，"还真……了"

动手

他居然答应了。

✅ He actually agreed. / To my surprise, he agreed.

她竟然忘了我。

✅ She actually forgot me?! / She of all people forgot me.

居然是真的！

✅ It is true?! / It turns out to be true!

他居然哭了。

✅ He ended up crying. / He did cry.

"turns out" —— 最地道

Turns out he's a doctor.     他居然是医生。
Turns out I was wrong.       居然是我错了。

turns out … = 结果原来 —— 中文"居然"的黄金对应。
