「虽然」和「但是」

中文最常写错的一对。

虽然下雨，但是我去了。

这句中文天经地义。翻成英文，不能两个都保留。

❌ Although it rained, but I went.
✅ Although it rained, I went.
✅ It rained, but I went.

英文里，although 和 but 二选一。中文的"虽然……但是……"在英文里要丢掉一个。

三种写法

Although it rained, I went.             正式
It rained, but I went.                  口语
Even though it rained, I still went.    强调 "还是"

动手

虽然他很忙，但是还是帮我了。

✅ Although he was busy, he helped me. ✅ He was busy, but he helped me.

虽然贵，我还是买了。

✅ Even though it was expensive, I still bought it.

这虽然小，但是挺舒服。

✅ It's small but cozy.

though 的另一条路

Expensive, though.       贵是贵 ……

though 放句末，是软转折（见第 37 课）。中文的"不过"正好对它。
